In 1944 fascist Spain, a girl, fascinated with fairy-tales, is sent along with her pregnant mother to live with her new stepfather, a ruthless captain of the Spanish army. During the night, she meets a fairy who takes her to an old faun in the center of the labyrinth. He tells her she's a princess, but must prove her royalty by surviving three gruesome tasks. If she fails, she will never prove herself to be the true princess and will never see her real father, the king, again.

In both the real world and in Pan's Labyrinth, there is unfortunately, a place for Hate.

Discussion will follow the film.

National Game Day

National Game Day at Lansdowne Public Library on Saturday, November 12th was a hit! The younger set enjoyed make and take games , board games and bean bag toss, while older kids played video games on our Wii and X-Box Kinect.

The quest to meet Robert De Niro, who was rumored to be filming in Lansdowne last week, is highlighted in this short video when librarian Abbe Klebanoff, traverses the town in an effort to meet the illusive movie star.

How many luminaries from the borough can you find in the video?

Next time you are at the library, why not check out the movie Limitless starting Mr. De Niro and his costar who was also filming in Lansdowne last week: Bradley Coooper.

If you see a friendly, new face working at Lansdowne, that’s Abbe Klebanoff, Head of Public Services. Miss Abbe has worked in the Delaware County library system for five years, most recently at Radnor Memorial Library in Wayne. She earned her M.S.L.S. from Clarion University.

Her role at Lansdowne is multi-faceted. She aims to service the needs of Lansdowne’s teens and adults through computer, literacy, research and entertainment. You can find her desk in the Ronnie Hawkins Memorial room, or as it is better know, The Teen Room.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a space filled with computers and resources for adults to improve computer skills in the morning, or get help with resume writing and job searching? Then, later in the day, teens and college students could find assistance with homework.

According to Director Sandra Giannella, there is a real need in this community that the library can fill. The library of yesterday is history. No longer is the public library just a repository for books. We see the library as a place where everyone can go not just for information, but also to meet the needs and requirements for the whole community, or just to have FUN!

In addition, Miss Abbe wants seniors to flock to the library to play Wii games, improve computer skills, partake in trivia contests, talk politics and participate in sing-alongs with her lunch with the librarian series. She also plays the ukulele and if asked, with play a tune!

Thanks to the Friends of Lansdowne Library, the library has access to an Xbox Kinect, and a Wii console. These are games that do not discriminate with age.

Next time you are in the library, make a special point of saying hello to our new librarian, Miss Abbe.

Welcome, Miss Abbe.

Do you have what it takes to design a multi-purpose room?

Help design our multi-purpose room at Lansdowne Public Library. In the mornings, the room will serve adults who want to improve computer skills, work on job searching or resume writing. The afternoon is dedicated helping teens and college students with homework help. Watch this short video then send your entries no later than Wednesday, November 30, to lareference@delcolibraries.org. The top three entries will be posted on our homepage, Facebook and other pages, where people can select their favorite. Call Abbe Klebanoff, Head of Public Services @ 610-623-0239 for more information.

The Library needs your support!

Our library is committed to maintaining the service that our loyal patrons expect. We continue to be one of the busiest libraries in Delaware County, to be open 66 hours a week and to provide a full range of programs for children, teens and adults.

While the Borough of Lansdowne continues to fund our staff and the maintenance of our building, state aid funds have been cut again for 2011. Since 2008 our state funds have been cut 27 percent. They are funds that we depend upon to purchase books, talking books, dvds and reference materials and also to fund programs, supplies and other library operations.

You can help by contributing to the library through the Friends of the Library. Donations can be sent to:

Friends of the Lansdowne Library
PO Box 7
Lansdowne, PA 19050

You can also drop off your check, made out to Friends of the Lansdowne Library, at the library building. The Friends are a 501 c 3 organization; donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by the IRS.

The Board of Trustees and staff thank you for any support you are able to provide.
